DIY Ideas for Thrift Store Furniture Finds

Many homeowners are turning to DIY projects when it comes to upgrading the design of their home. Many times, doing something yourself can save you money versus hiring a professional. Cosmetic upgrades for your home are a great example.

Decorating a home on a budget is not always easy. Finding things you love, while not overspending can seem like an impossible task. With a little bit of DIY creativity, you can turn gently used items into beautiful home decor pieces. If you’re looking for affordable furniture finds, shopping at a thrift store is the best place to start.

You can achieve your favorite home design style for a lot less by shopping at a thrift shop in Destin, FL. A lot of times we receive items that are great quality, but simply need a little DIY love.

Dining Chairs

The mismatched look for a kitchen dining table is a popular trend in home design. All you need is two to four quality chairs with a solid base. They don’t have to have the same finish, because you can sand and restain them. You could also add a new slipcover or reupholster the seat cushion. This is a great way to achieve a custom designer look for your dining space without spending a lot of money.

End Tables

Wooden end tables are very easy to repaint. When you find a table with a structure that you like, simply sand and add a fresh coat of paint in your choice of color and finish. An end table doesn’t necessarily have to match the other furniture in the room, so it’s a great piece to buy at a thrift store. Add some shiny new hardware and you’ll have a cute piece that looks like you paid top dollar for.

Floor Lamps

If you’re looking for a floor lamp for an office or bedroom, you can often find them at a thrift store. Sometimes all they need is a little buffing and shining. One trick we like to use is adding a designer light bulb for a unique look. You’d be surprised at how a new bulb can make such a big difference.

Dressers

A refinished vintage dresser is a great way to add character to a bedroom.  Look for unique details that you can highlight if you choose to refurbish. You might consider adding new legs to the dresser. We love this mid-century hairpin option

Sofas

Rather than purchasing a brand new sofa, try and find one that has a good structure to it. If you like the size and shape of a gently used sofa, you can always reupholster it with new fabric and filling. Imagine a down-filled sofa that didn’t cost you a fortune? It’s possible if you get creative and give new life to an old sofa.

  1. At the heart of budget decorating, or DIY decorating for that matter, is the makeover. Find a used piece with good bones at a thrift store, yard sale or flea market, and transform it into something stylish and lovely.

  2. I usually don’t read the whole content but thanks to you that I have gone through every word of this article. I really liked the cold calling part and I got to know about the price idea for billboard in Time Square. I also have saved a image to print it out for my desk. Thanks a lot for this kind of information. I subscribed to be updated.
